KIOSB D17: Free Associating

Thanks to the Kickin’ It Old School prompt for today, I’m free associating a random list of words they came up with, to see what comes up for each word. Feel free to play along in the comments if you like!

River. Canoeing. Slowly meandering our way down the river. Exploring. Taking it all in. Never knowing what’s around the next corner. The adventure of it all. Being open to possibilities. The surprise encounters.

Fresh. I think of produce — of fresh fruits and veggies, full of color and life and sustenance, grown for our survival and thriving.

Escape. I immediately think of books. They were always my escape into the world of imagination as a child, and they continue to give me space to escape off into the worlds of imagination, learning, and growth. I love the way they allow us to share and see through the lens of another’s perspective.

Moment. Interesting that the moment that came to mind first was one of standing under the stars at night, gazing up at the sky in wonder for… a moment. Those are always amazing, calm moments of true peace.

Night. As you can tell from my last answer, I tend to find night to be a very peaceful time, and that’s the sense I got when I thought about it — not so much a word or a memory that came to mind, but rather that calm, quiet sense of peace that tends to come late at night. I find it so relaxing to shop at night, to drive at night, to get things done after others have gone to bed. There are less expectations from others late at night.

I can relate to your answers and I too love staring at the night sky. You’re so right that there are fewer expectations at night. I found this particularly true when my children were younger.

Night owls of the world unite! <3

I love how you described books as being an escape. I couldn’t agree more. (Although on my list I went the route of a tropical beach!) And your observations about night time are so astute. The winds die down, people slow down, and everything seems more calm than during the day. I love it, too.

Ah, tropical beach is such a great response, too. My cold toes on this snowy day are feelin’ that escape!

I see you’re a night owl! And wow, why didn’t I think of food when I saw Fresh? Excellent job!

I like yours too, though — fresh air! So necessary. And totally refreshing.
