KIOSB D2: A Snapshot in Time

Lefty Clock by Ross Berteig

Lefty Clock by Ross Berteig

For today’s Kickin’ It Old School Blog-a-thon post, we’re looking at capturing a moment in time with the following questions. It’s quite serendipitous, as I was just talking with a colleague earlier today, as we were planning out some workshops, about a few really cool coaching tools that allow you to collect a snapshot in time around where you’re at in life, ย where you could use some focus, how you’re doing with goals, etc. Anyway! On to the fun questions…

What are you reading?
I’m currently reading Word of Mouth Marketing by Andy Sernovitz, as my goal is to get through it and write up a post on it by the end of the month! In a nutshell, it’s all about having great services and/or products and doing awesome things with them that get people talking. With that in mind, this is as good a time as any to mention that I have some fun ideas for book reviews to add to this blog in the near future, so more on this book (and others) soon!

What are you watching?
I’ve been catching up on a few sitcoms lately (I really do love to laugh): Modern Family, Big Bang Theory, The Mindy Project, and a little New Girl mixed in. But, way cooler, I’ve been watching the people around me grow, I’ve been people-watching in the city, I’ve been watching people and cars go by my front window all day as I work from home, I’ve been watching my sweet, sweet niece a lot lately, and I’ve been taking a moment each clear night when I get home late to gaze up at the stars and breathe deeply.

What are you listening to?
I’ve really been digging the ‘Motown,’ ‘Hot Club Jazz,’ and ‘Instrumental Bluegrass’ stations on Pandora lately. And, of course, I will never pass up the opportunity to shamelessly plug my sister Anna Luxion’s music, which always comes with a deep, powerful message. I’ve got her newest CD in my car, and I listened to it on repeat the other day and admit to tearing up a couple times (based on both song messages and being just so darn impressed and proud by what she does with her music!).

What are you loving?
My family; the coaching work I get to do (oh. my. goodness.); some amazing coaching-related projects, ideas and opportunities that have been opening up; and people. I always love people.

What are you wearing?
Crazy knee-high socks (along with many other warm layers). There are two purposes to this: a). It’s very, very, very cold this time of year in the Chicago area and I find that knee-high socks are a simple way to stay much, much warmer, and b). It’s an awesome way to add some fun and color into my wardrobe. (See: Sock It To Me) Who doesn’t love crazy socks?!

What are you creating?
I’m creating me! But, really, we’re always creating ourselves, our self-image, our lives, etc. even when we don’t consciously realize it. I’m also creating a regular flow of posts on my Facebook coaching page. I’m creating some workshops with a colleague. I’m creating new levels of friendship with some awesome people. I’m creating warmth in the middle of winter by taking brisk walks when it’s sunny, laughing with friends, and sitting in front of a fireplace or going to the sauna whenever I can manage to. I’m creating new connections with my fellow Kickin’ It Old School Blog-a-thon-ers!

What are you looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to… warm weather! …continued personal growth and meeting a couple big goals I have set for myself over the next month. …continued coach training I’ll be participating in over the next year. …talking to each of my clients at our next sessions. …and just generally seeing how life continues to unfold each day. It’s awesome!

This post is part of a Kickin’ It Old School Blog-a-thon taking place throughout the month of December 2013. Anyone is welcome to join in anytime during the month! And, you can find all of my KIOSB posts here.ย Day 2/31

I’m with you on looking forward to warm weather! As for what you’re watching — the people watching, the growth…so much more rewarding than anything on tv or film!

I love it.. “I’m creating me.” Isn’t that the truth. A vital piece of biography that I usually forget! Thank you for the reminder. ๐Ÿ™‚

I too am looking forward to warmer weather! I grew up in southwest Missouri and spent quite a lot of time in the area that did the Donner party in so I should be used to cold. Having lived in the south for the better part of a decade now, I’ve been ruined. I think my blood is too thin these days to handle cold weather. (I know! I know ๐Ÿ™ ) Fortunately the warmer weather will be here very, very soon.

I love the New Girl…such a good show…I wish I could give people that Zooey Deschanel exasperated look sometimes…I think it would be very effective in my daily life… ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m with you on the knee high socks thing…especially when they are crazy socks…there is nothing better than a good crazy sock!

I loooove multi-color knee-high socks!

1. Heather, your enthusiasm may be infectious. I love it!

2. A dear friend recently gifted me rainbow/unicorn knee socks. They’re beyond fabulous and I sense you would appreciate them.

Thanks, Amalia!! Those socks sound awesome!

Love to people watch!
