KIOSB D9: A Very Short “List” of Movies
I missed yesterday’s Kickin’ It Old School Blog-a-thon post, but it proved to be a much needed breather of a day and an opportunity to “just be” with the people around me, which was very important. And, it was also just a really, really nice break from having to do all the things all the time. Sometimes we just gotta give ourselves permission to not get everything on our list done!
Okay, so today’s prompt (which I am getting to rather late here) is to talk about some of our favorite movies, which brings me to… a
short very short list of six two romantic comedies and why I like them, in three sentences or less. (I started off wanting to write about six, but it’s super late and after just two I’m ready to crash, so I’ll have to pick this idea up again some time because I do think it’s fascinating to look at why we like movies. And, I started in on romantic comedies specifically because I have a soft spot for them — so long as they are actually realistic, funny and/or teach a good lesson about real relationships.)
Penelope. It’s the story of a young woman with a pig nose who adventures out into the world and learns to love herself at her core vs. reaching outside of herself for acceptance and love based largely on her physical appearance. I mean, what’s not to love about that?! It’s also colorful, and has a lot of delightfully funny and heartwarming moments along the way.
Runaway Bride. Are you seeing a theme here? It’s the story of a woman who has to figure out herself — her own likes, dislikes, strengths, weaknesses, etc. — and embrace them all in order to find a lasting, truly balanced relationship. It’s about remaining authentic and finding someone who actually fits YOU, rather than becoming what the other person in the relationship wants.
Enough for now, but look for this theme again some time in the next couple months, as I think I’d like to flesh it out into a longer post.
This post is part of a Kickin’ It Old School Blog-a-thon taking place throughout the month of December 2013. Anyone is welcome to join in anytime during the month! And, you can find all of my KIOSB posts here. Day 9/31
