Stereotype threat

I went to a great talk tonight by Claude Steele, author of Whistling Viviladi about stereotype threat. He’s done decades of research on the effect that stereotypes can have (often on the subconscious of a person), causing students to score noticeably lower on tests or for anyone to underperform in general when the expectation of the stereotype that fits them might cause them to question their capacity or intelligence level. It was stunning what they found in their research. I’m adding his book to my 2015 reading list (which is getting quite long), as I’m very curious to learn more.
